During last night’s small group study of John 3 we came across a verse that seemed to speak to all of us, and was especially touching for one of the members. In comes when John the Baptist exalts Jesus.
“For he whom God has sent utters the words of God, for he gives the Spirit without measure.”
– John 3:34
As believers we are sealed with the promise of the Holy Spirit (John 14:26) when we place are faith and trust in Jesus (Acts 2:38). But how much of the Spirit do we as believers get? Do we get some, and others get much? Do you get a little but when you compare yourself to other in your church, in ministry or the Bible you feel they just have more? The answer is clear from the verse above! God gives the Spirit without measure or limits. So if you are in Christ then you have as much as anyone else.
How great is this power? Ephesians 1:19-20 says.
“and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might 20 that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places,”
The same power that has raised Jesus Christ from the dead and Ascended Him back to Heaven is given to us at Salvation. We do not have to pray for God to give us this power, we need be aware and believe that we have been given this power. How then should we use this power?
The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me,
because the Lord has anointed me
to bring good news to the poor;
he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim liberty to the captives,
and the opening of the prison to those who are bound
– Isaiah 61:1
